Thomas G. CampbellDate in office: 1972-1976

Thomas G. Campbell was appointed as the County Executive in May 1972 after being recognized by the supervisors for his frugality during adoption of a budget that produced a nearly a 10- cent tax rate decrease.

Campbell came to Sacramento in 1958 to take a civilian job with the Corps of Engineers and after several months, accepted a position with the Sacramento County Department of Public Works. During his tenure, Campbell was responsible for carrying forward a major capital improvement program which included the construction of the county branch center, a new office for the sheriff’s department, new branch libraries, beginning construction of the administrative center and a remodel of the jail.

Campbell left the position of County Executive in March 1976.
